1. Data Collection & Audio Recording
EnginEar requests microphone access solely for the purpose of analyzing engine acoustics in real-time. Audio files recorded or uploaded are transmitted to our servers for diagnostic inference.
- Limited capture window: In-app recordings stop automatically after 15 seconds. Recordings shorter than 5 seconds are discarded on your device and never uploaded. For uploaded files, only the first 15 seconds of audio are analyzed.
- Microphone is only active while recording: The microphone is used for a brief ambient-noise check and the recording itself, and is released as soon as recording ends. If you switch apps, lock your phone, or leave the page during a recording, the recording is cancelled and nothing is uploaded.
- Raw audio is not retained: Audio is written to temporary storage only for the duration of the analysis and is deleted immediately afterward. Only the resulting diagnosis and numeric acoustic measurements (for example duration, peak frequency, and signal-to-noise ratio) are returned to you.
- Screen stays on during recording: While a recording is in progress, EnginEar asks your browser to keep the screen on (the Screen Wake Lock feature) so your device does not auto-lock mid-recording. This feature does not access any personal data, is limited to EnginEar's own site, and is released as soon as recording stops.
2. Data Storage
If you create an account, diagnostic results and associated audio metadata are securely stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) to provide you with a history log. We do not sell your personal data.
3. Third-Party Services
We utilize Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, and hosting. Your interactions with these services are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data. However, no transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
